Sookinchoot Youth Centre
Sookinchoot Youth Centre is located on the 2nd floor at 3000 30th Street, above Brenda Hala's photography downtown Vernon BC. Sookinchoot is for First Nation/Metis and Inuit Youth age 13-18 yrs old and is a non-profit, stay-in-school program of the First Nations Friendship Centre and is funded in part by the Cultural Connections for Aboriginal Youth Initiative and other grants and donations.
Youth Program and Activities are planned by the core youth council members and are offered at no cost to First Nation Youth unless otherwise stated.

Social Movie making - REEL YOUTH
re:invent Summer Film Camp
Join Reel Youth for an incredible 7 day film making camp
at Channel Rock on Cortes Island, BC - July 10-16, 2011
Develop your film making skills, record music, have fun, and produce media addressing some of the most pressing social and environmental issues of our time.
How much does it cost?
The program fee is $350 and includes: transportation to and from the camp (between Nanaimo and Cortes Island), platform tent accommodation, meals (including dinner on arrival day and a packed lunch on departure day) equipment and all other program-related costs.
Partial scholarships are available for some youth who would not otherwise be able to attend the camp. Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need.
Reel Youth offers this program at a fraction of its actual cost. Even at our discounted program fee of $350, there will be those for whom the cost will be a barrier. If would like to donate to our scholarship fund, all funds raised will be used to provide financial assistance to youth that might otherwise not be able to attend our programs. All donations to Reel Youth are tax-deductible.

FIRST NATIONS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Native Youth Program is a collaborative work-study program. It provides students with an opportunity to learn about traditional and contemporary Northwest Coast cultures from their own experiences and research, and from local First Nations guest speakers. They will also learn about the resources at the FNHL and MOA and develop skills in public presentations using objects and visual aids at the museum. Participants will share this knowledge with other students and museum visitors through guided tours and presentations. Students are expected to study, write reports, and participate in study trips.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must be 15 to 18 years old, aboriginal and enrolled in high school. They must also have an interest in First Nations heritage.
TERM: Full-Time
July 5, 2011 – August 19, 2011
7 weeks
35 hours/week
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday to Friday
SALARY: $8.00/hour
